Steve Whitfield - Bagem Team

I started fishing when I was old enough to hold a rod. My first taste of match success was a win at my local dam flask reservoir in the under 10’s in 1982, I also won the under 10’s all England boys club later that year on Yorkshires River Wharfe and that was me hooked!

My fishing for the most has been on natural venues, mainly match fishing on reservoirs, lakes or rivers around the UK. Although my biggest match weight on a river is 110lb (River Trent), and 135lb on a still water (Ferry Meadows), contrary to most anglers these days, I’m more than prepared to fish for what is needed to win the match, whether that is 20lb or 2lb “a win is a win”.

After being “runner up” on several occasions over the years I finally won the Pennine Championship at Dam Flask Reservoir in 2015, I also hold the match record there with 76lb 6oz along with the match record at another local venue - Underbank Reservoir with 47lb 12oz respectively.

Over the past decade most of my fishing has been done on running waters where I’ve managed to win numerous open matches. 2015 has been a special year winning 16 open matches “several with over 50 competitors” and with that, I’ve qualified for the Riverfest final for the third year running.

There’s no doubt groundbait can give you the edge over your competitors, and the XP range has been the key to a lot of my still water success over the last few years. I firmly believe the XP range is the “best” Bream and Skimmer fishmeal groundbait available today.  I’ve always had a keen interest in blending my own groundbaits over the years, so the opportunity to work with the Bag’em team to develop the 'naturals' range has been great…. Tight lines everyone.
