Bag'em matchbaits/Tubertini Team Quartet Make it a Double

After what can only be described as an horrendous winter, that has made attempting to go fishing over the past three months an impossibility for most of us. Ten teams of die hards have braved the elements to fish the Alders Farm Teams of four Winter League 2010/11 to its close conclusion. With Bag'em/Tubertini and GOT Baits level on points and only weight count back separating them, the penultimate round was going to be a very tense affair indeed.
The all important draw took place and Bag'em/Tubertini drew well putting all the pressure on the GOT Baits team but the job in hand was too big a task for the Alders Farm regulars. On the day team Bag'em/Tubertini battled to their second consecutive winter league victory with sections wins for Barry Mason, Matt Grant, Mick McMillan and a 4th in section for team Captain Steve Potter, which on the day was enough to give them the title by a clear margin of 14 points.
To add yet another accolade to this very impressive, all round team performance, the leagues top point scorer was Wellingborough based rod Matt Grant. He amassed an incredible 49 out of a possible 50 section points, which is an incredible personal achievement, especially when you take into consideration the conditions that Matt and all the anglers taking part had to contend with.
Final Round, Section Results
Section A 1ST Martin Smith Marukyu 114lbs 2oz

Wins Midland Angler of the Year
The Midland Angler of the Year Match was held at Barston Lake in Solihull on Wed 15th Sept 2010. Nigel Harry the fishery owner invited the top 50 anglers from the Midlands to fish for his trophy.
1st) Trevor Robinson Bag'em Baits 3pts - section win and second
2nd) Kieran Rich Daiwa 3pts (Lower weight) - section win and second
3rd) Pete Bennett 5pts (Better weight - section win and fourth
4th) Amer Jawad Bag'em Baits 5pts - section win and fourth
5th) Rob Wooton Dynamite baits 5pts - section 2nd and 3rd
Trev's diary
The Midland Angler of the Year final was separated into two 3 hour matches with half hour weighing intervals.
The first 3 hour match was feeder only but you could feed your pole line but couldn't fish it. To begin my match I chose to fish for numbers of fish i.e. the f1s and skimmer bream rather that the occasional large carp.
Feeding at the start of the match i set up 2 rods at the same distance of 30 yards one which i planned to use a large open end feeder to get some bait in the peg at the start. As its a big lake you need to draw in the fish, so I filled my large open end feeder and put 5 feeder fulls of Bag'ems micro pellets in on that line, I put my rod down and fed my pole line for the second match with an orange size ball of Bag'ems Xpanda micros 50/50 moulded hard to get to the bottom as it was very windy and towing a lot. I didn't want to overfeed this line on the pole because i didn't know whether it was right or wrong to feed heavy without being able to fish it, so i just planned to feed the line once more half way through my first match and then leave it for the second match.
I then threw a pellet feeder on my 30 yard line with Bag'ems micros as feed and a 6mm banded pellet hook bait. I caught virtually straight away , four f1s and the next two came off. I just carried on plugging away on this line hoping that it would get stronger later in the match. After the 1st hour I had twelve f1s then I had 40mins quite hard so i wanted to get some bait back into my peg because I felt the fish had moved on. So I chucked two more big feeder fulls in, it was make or break time. Within the next 10min i started to catch again and took another five and it slowed up again. So then i thought the fish just backed away from the feed and just came to feed when they wanted, so i took 5 yards of my clip and cast past my feeding area to 35 yards. I then began to catch bream in the last 40min of the match, they were averaging a pound and half, sure weight builders! Then it was all out of the 1st match.
Ended up 2nd in my section on the 1st match with 31lb 4oz, I was pleased with 2nd but I feel I should have won my section due to a few lost fish!
The 2nd match was pole only , I shipped out to 13m with a soft pellet as hook bait and kinder cupping a golf ball size of Bag'ems xp and micros 50/50 moulded hard. The wind was really pushing my rig through the water fast which I thought wasn't good for presentation so I knew I had to then put line on the deck to try and slow it down a bit. About 10 inches seemed to be best even though its not usually right to do when fishing expanders but there was no other option. My first two bites were from two roach and I thought oh dear! but then on the 3rd cast I took my first skimmer of 1.5 lb and I thought from that point I was going to catch then, so I knew from the earlier feeding from the first match on the pole line i never overfed it. I then just began to catch steady throughout the rest of the match continuing to feed a small ball each cast eventually pushing myself to a section win of 37lb 14oz. Considering the conditions over the day it was still good fishing . I ended up with 3 points overall which was a close tie with Kieron Rich but in the event of a tie it goes to the top weight so I won beating Kieron by about 5.5lb overall.

Bag'ems Jamie Hughes won Heronbrook festival 2010
Bag'ems Jamie Hughes won the Heronbrook festival last week with 6 points, consisting of 1 match win, 1 lake win, 2 section wins and a section 2nd. This won Jamie around £2200 for the week.
This makes Jamie the first angler to win the festival twice, he first won it in 2007.
Here's how he did it:
Day 1. I drew peg 19 on Meadow pool and caught 95lb of carp on the pole and method using 2mm coarse pellets and Bag'ems XP groundbait with a 6mm pellet on the hook. This was enough to win my section.
Day 2. I drew peg 39 on the Speci lake, this is a wide peg so I had to fish 19m of pole to reach the far bank. I finished up with 91lb of carp using 4mm pellets and meat. This won my section and also the lake.
Day 3. Peg 52 on Meadow pool was my worst draw of the week. The lake fished hard with only around 20lb in the first 5 hours, fortunately some large carp arrived across in the last hour and I caught around 40lb to finish with 63lb and 2nd in section.
Day 4. Peg 11 on canal was my best draw of the week! Fishing 2mm pellets with a 4mm or 6mm Bag'em Xpanda on the hook resulted in bites all day from small carp and a weight of 106lb was enough to win the section and also the match overall.
Day 5. I drew peg 15 on Bridge pool and was fairly happy, as I needed to finish in the top 5 in section to win the festival, I felt that this peg was capable of doing that.
The pool fished really hard though and with 20 mins remaining I had 24lb and was lying around 7th in section, fortunately luck was on my side as a mirror carp weighing 16lb 4oz was my final fish with 10 mins remaining! This gave me a total weight of 41lb and a section win, which won me the festival by 7 points.

Bag'em matchbaits are the first bait manufacturer to have three consecutive Kamasan Matchman of the Year winners.
Picture from left to right Neil Machin (Bag'em) Kamasan winner 08-09, Jamie Hughes (Bag'em) 2010-2011 being presented with his trophy on Saturday 13th March by Richard Adams 09-10 the youngest Kamasan winner ever, also sponsored by Bag'em.
Jamie a scaffolder from the Wirral had been leading the table for quite a few months and won with 46 points.
Jamie Hughes was 3rd at Heronbrook with 64lb on saturday and scored 2 more kamasan points. He'll know on Wednesday if he's won the Kamasan.
Jamie Hughes had a really good day on Saturday in the Tunnel Barn winter league. He came 4th with 59lb which got him up to 40 kamasan points. The Maver/Pickerings/Bag'em team also won the league and Jamie was the winner of the individual league.
Sunday 28th Feb 2010
On Sunday he fished the Cudmore winter league where he was 3rd on his lake, unfortunately the team finished 3rd on the day which meant us finishing second in the final league by just a single point!
Jamie Hughes only fished on Saturday this weekend due to the snow. He finished 3rd on the lake in the Tunnel Barn winter league and our team Maver/Pickerings/Bag'em won on the day. The team are now leading by 42 points with 1 round left.
Bag’em backed Jamie Hughes has put clear water between himself and the chasing pack in the Angler's Mail Kamasan Matchman of the year race, moving to 30 points and more that two wins ahead of early front runner Jon Arthur (Shakespeare) on 21.

Bag’em pair come 3rd
Another new festival and the very first pair festival at White Acres.
The festival is being fished over 4 days on the two Twin Oaks lakes and two of the lakes at Trewaters. Its running on points with seven points for a section win, six for second and so on but with no dropped result. In recent weeks Twin Oaks has been fishing really well and has been dominating the match results and the fishing at Trewaters has been good too with regular matches on the site really bringing the lakes on. So that is it, the stage is set for week and anglers are ready for the off, only four matches stands between the anglers and winning the White Acres Preston Innovations Pair Festival 2009. It is a real mix of anglers in the festival so it should be an interesting week.........
A Section moved onto the high numbered side of Twin Oaks for their final match, the lake fished quite hard today but the vital section points were all up for grabs so it was all systems go. Mike Dagnall was the lake winner with 118lb 6oz; Mike fished a great match catching on the method feeder from peg 28. Second on the lake and also winning his section was James Hawkins, James was on peg 24 and caught on the method feeder with pellet for a weight of 47lb 6oz. Stewart Lister on peg 21 was third, Stewart weighed in with 35lb 13oz caught on the method with pellet
Section Winners
Mick Dagnall (MAP / Bag’em) - 7 points - 118lb 6oz
James Hawkins - 7 points - 47lb 6oz
B section fished the low numbered lake and it fished really well with consistent weight across the whole of the lake. The lake winner today and on his fourth straight section win was Adam Wakelin; Adam was on peg 9 and caught on the method with pellet for a weight of 152lb 11oz. Second on the lake with 95lb 15oz was Mike Shuttleworth, Mike was on peg 17 and caught on the method & bomb with pellet. Nigel Taylor was on peg 16 and was third with 88lb 2oz.

Angling Times/ Maver Pairs Qualifier

Lee Thornton (Bag’em ) 3rd 174-15-0
The fish were in a feeding mood for 2008 Maver Pairs
and Pole Pairs on the 16th and 17th of August at Larford with the Arena lake producing the big bumper nets. 112kg taken by Adam Richards on the Saturday was the top weight with no less than four anglers catching over 90kg (200lb)!
On the Sunday the lake record was broken by Bag’ems very own Lee Thornton.
Lee commented on the catch; ‘Having drawn on the Arena pool on the Saturday and getting a right battering, I was praying for a draw there again on the Sunday as I felt that although I had been beaten, I had worked out the winning method for the lake. After two hours on the first day I started to introduce casters which the fish went barmy for, however I still wasn’t feeding heavy enough and due to falling behind at the start I ended up fourth in the section with 90.150kg when I felt I could of won.
With some good drawing by my Bag’em partner Peter Goodman, I was drawn again on the Arena pool on the Sunday and spent an hour walking around buying peoples Casters from them!! I managed to amass 10 pints of Caster and 3 Pints of Hemp which I felt should be enough!!
Having started shallow for the first 5 minutes with only two small Rudd for my efforts. I came down the edge where I had been feeding caster from the start. Instantly I was into a carp and caught well for half an hour or so. It started to tail off which I felt was due to the depth of water I was fishing, I started at 2ft which due to the overnight heavy rain I felt was too shallow. Picking up my other rig set at 3 ft I was again catching. I fed a big handful of bait when I first hooked a carp and another handful when I laid my rig in. I fished to my right for the first half of the match and to my left for the second amassing approximately 130 fish for 133. 140kg or 292lb.
I felt shattered by the end of the match but pleased that it had gone so well, I run out of bait with 5 minutes to go so I managed to spread my feed out well although I think I could of caught more with more bait!!
Rig was a 4x12 float, 0.22 straight through to a 14 hook with 16/20 hollow elastic

Pete Goodman, Sunday at Heronbrook he won Island Lake with 34lb.
Sunday, 21st February 2010
Overnight frost and a pile of snow cut the numbers down considerably. Furthermore, the Speci was frozen so the match was switched to the Match lake.
Winner on the day was Jay Davis (Browning) who drew peg 62 on the burr. Jay fished pellet at 14.5m to land carp and F1's for a total 60-11-0 and a place in the May final. An added bonus for him was the in from the Golden Peg. Well done.
2nd on the day was Pete Goodman (Bagem Baits) who drew peg to the winner on peg 63. He also fished at 14.5m to land F1 carp for a total weight of 47-9-0 and a place in the final.
3rd placed Tony Shepherd drew peg 26 on the Shallow bank. Fishing pole at 14.5m with soft pellet, Tony went on to bag 41-1-0 of F1 Carp. Fishing for Banbury Gunsmiths he was unlucky not to qualify at his first attempt.
Again, fantastic weights were recorded despite Arctic conditions
